Observation

Species: Isabelline/Red-tailed Shrike (Lanius isabellinus/ phoenicuroides) info
Number: 1
Breeding:
Remarks: see photos and 'Unknown birds' section, Comments by Tim Worfolk, October 2019: This must be a 1st winter - from the fresh-looking wing coverts (particularly MC) with strong sub-terminal markings. 1W collurio generally a lot more barred above than this, plainer mantle ff not aquired until 2cy spring moult. Plainish upperparts (on a 1W) and rather strong head pattern suggest phoenicuroides, however the tail doesn't look at all rufous and outer TF look suspiciously pale - maybe this is due to light conditions?
